And so they found that the gold of the olive root had dripped in the re-
cesses of his heart.
(Depois descobriram que o ouro da raiz de oliveira tinha pingado nos recessos do seu coração)
And from the many times that he had lain awake by candlelight waiting
for the dawn, a strange heat had seized his entrails.
(E por causa das muitas vezes em que ficou acordado à luz da vela esperando a aurora, um estranho calor tinha tomado suas entranhas)
A little below the skin, the blue line of the horizon sharply painted. And
ample traces of blue throughout his blood.
(Pouco abaixo da pele, a linha fina e azul do horizonte pintada claramente. E muitos traços de azul por todo o seu sangue)
The cries of birds which he had come to memorize in hours of great lonely
ness apparently spilled out all at once, so that it was impossible for
the knife to enter deeply.
(O canto das aves, que ele tinha memorizado em horas de grande solidão, aparentemente se derramou todo de uma só vez - tornando impossível que a lâmina penetrasse fundo)
Probably the intention sufficed for the evil
(Provavelmente a intenção foi suficiente para o mal)
Which he met—it is obvious—in the terrifying posture of the innocent.
His eyes open, proud, the whole forest moving still on the unblem-
ished retina.
(Que ele conheceu - é óbvio - na terrível postura dos inocentes.
Seus olhos abertos, orgulhosos, toda a floresta se movendo inerte na retina sem mácula)
Nothing in the brain but a dead echo of the sky.
(Nada no cérebro, senão o eco morto do céu)
Only in the hollow of his left ear some light fine sand, as though in a shell.
Which means that often he had walked by the sea alone with the pain
of love and the roar of the wind.
(Na parte oca de sua orelha esquerda, um pouco de areia fina, como se numa concha.
O que significa que ele sempre caminhava à beira do mar sozinho com a dor de amor e o rugido do vento)
As for those particles of fire on his groin, they show that he moved time
hours ahead whenever he embraced a woman.
(Quanto àquelas partículas de fogo em sua virilha, elas mostram que ele transportava o tempo horas à frente quando abraçava uma mulher)
We shall have early fruit this year.
(Este ano a colheita vai ser mais cedo)
