That was my ass you saw bouncing
Next to Ludacris
It was only on screen for a second
But it was kinda hard to miss
And all those other hoochie skanks
They ain't got shit on me
And one of Nelly’s bodyguards
He totally agreed

My mother cleaned the homes of wealthy people ‘till the day
She died and so to California
I did make my way
I tried to finish nursing school
I really wanted to, you see
But all those broken bodies
Well they, they really got to me

And they all think I’m stupid
I can see it in their eyes
But I know what’s inside their hearts
I penetrate their lives
Sometimes it gets me crazy
But I keep my feelings hid
‘Cuz I know deep inside they’re only frightened little kids

And if I press my breasts together
And arch my back just so
I can ask for pretty things
And they will not say no
No one should have to suffer
No one should go without
Don’t hate me 'cuz I know just what this world is all about
Don’t hate me 'cuz I know just what this world is all about

Linguística do Corpus

Corpus linguistics is the study of language data on a large scale - the computer-aided analysis of very extensive collections of transcribed utterances or written texts. This textbook outlines the basic methods of corpus linguistics, explains how the discipline of corpus linguistics developed and surveys the major approaches to the use of corpus data. It uses a broad range of examples to show how corpus data has led to methodological and theoretical innovation in linguistics in general. Clear and detailed explanations lay out the key issues of method and theory in contemporary corpus linguistics. A structured and coherent narrative links the historical development of the field to current topics in 'mainstream' linguistics. Practical tasks and questions for discussion at the end of each chapter encourage students to test their understanding of what they have read and an extensive glossary provides easy access to definitions of technical terms used in the text.

Self as Symbol
The loopy nature of consciousness trips up scientists studying themselves

Emblems of Awareness
Brain signatures lead scientists to the seat of consciousness

A linguagem incorporada

The Embodied Language. Why language should not be conceived of in abstraction from the brain and body, why there is more to it than sensorimotor and semantic resonance, and the consequences for robotics
Michał B. Paradowski 2012
Institute of Applied Linguistics,
University of Warsaw
http://arxiv.org/pdf/1111.7190

A radical new explanation of how life and consciousness emerge from physics and chemistry. As physicists work toward completing a theory of the universe and biologists unravel the molecular complexity of life, a glaring incompleteness in this scientific vision becomes apparent. The "Theory of Everything" that appears to be emerging includes everything but us: the feelings, meanings, consciousness, and purposes that make us (and many of our animal cousins) what we are. These most immediate and incontrovertible phenomena are left unexplained by the natural sciences because they lack the physical properties—such as mass, momentum, charge, and location—that are assumed to be necessary for something to have physical consequences in the world. This is an unacceptable omission. We need a "theory of everything" that does not leave it absurd that we exist.

Incomplete Nature begins by accepting what other theories try to deny: that, although mental contents do indeed lack these material-energetic properties, they are still entirely products of physical processes and have an unprecedented kind of causal power that is unlike anything that physics and chemistry alone have so far explained. Paradoxically, it is the intrinsic incompleteness of these semiotic and teleological phenomena that is the source of their unique form of physical influence in the world. Incomplete Nature meticulously traces the emergence of this special causal capacity from simple thermodynamics to self-organizing dynamics to living and mental dynamics, and it demonstrates how specific absences (or constraints) play the critical causal role in the organization of physical processes that generate these properties.

The book's radically challenging conclusion is that we are made of these specific absenses—such stuff as dreams are made on—and that what is not immediately present can be as physically potent as that which is. It offers a figure/background shift that shows how even meanings and values can be understood as legitimate components of the physical world. 12 black-and-white illustrations.

Aprendizagem e Cognição

This collection of 58 articles from the recently-published third edition of the International Encyclopedia of Education focus on learning, memory, attention, problem solving, concept formation, and language. Learning and cognition is the foundation of cognitive psychology and encompasses many topics including attention, memory, categorization, etc. Most books in the area either focus on one subtopic in-depth (e.g. an entire book on memory) or cover the gamut of subjects in a series of long, technical handbook-like chapters. This concise reference offers researchers and professors teaching in the area a new take on the material that is comprehensive in breadth, but lighter in depth - focusing on main findings, established facts, and minimizing the amount of space taken up by large, multi-volume references. An introduction to a complex field via summaries of main topics in this discipline. Contains contributions from the foremost international researchers in the field. Makes content available to individual cognitive psychology researchers.
