A editoria acrescenta umas linhas:

The human brain is among the most complex systems known to mankind. Neuroscientists seek to understand brain function through detailed analysis of neuronal excitability and synaptic transmission. Only in the last few years has it become feasible to capture simultaneous responses from large enough numbers of neurons to empirically test the theories of human brain function. This book will contain the state of art research papers on the field of computational neuroscience. (...)The contributors are chosen from those who have closely been involved in many diverse applications in neuroscience field. Authors from many disiplines (Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, medicine) present their latest research results. Data mining, signal processing, optimization and medical science are combined to tackle the most challenging modern neuroscience problems. The material in the book is covered in a way that fits in with the regulatory environment, with extensively references to the key journals/magazines in the area. This book is expository in nature and it will translate the technical languages into industries’ commonly-used terminology, which will make this volume even more beneficial to both scientists and physicians.

Neurociência do Vício (Addiction)

Understanding the phenomenon of long-lasting vulnerability to addiction is essential to developing successful treatments. Written by a distinguished international team of contributors who are authorities in their respective fields, Advances in the Neuroscience of Addiction provides an excellent overview of the available and emerging approaches used to investigate the biologic mechanisms of drug addiction. It also delineates the promising research discoveries being made in relapse prevention. The book begins with current animal models of addiction, which mimic the state of humans entering treatment: recently-abstinent animals that receive common triggers for relapse (classical conditioning, stress, and neuroadaptive dysregulation). Coverage then shifts to the use of electrophysiologic approaches, which enable researchers to characterize the discharge patterns of single neurons during drug self-administration. After exploring advances in voltammetry and enzyme-linked biosensors for measuring glutamate, the book discusses the theoretical background and results of neuroimaging studies related to neuronal networks that are activated by drug-specific cues. It then describes modern genetic approaches to manipulate target proteins that influence addictive behavior. The book rounds out its coverage by illustrating how a neuroeconomic approach can inform studies of reward processing in general and addiction in particular. It is a comprehensive introduction to the methodologies of the field for students and beginning researchers and an essential reference source for established investigators.

Sebastian Gardner competently tackles one of Sartre's more complex and challenging works in this new addition to the "Reader's Guides" series - Sartre's "Being and Nothingness". "A Reader's Guide" follows the successful format of "Continuum's Reader's Guides" series, designed specifically to meet the needs of undergraduate students. Gardner provides a brief biographical and contextual sketch, introducing Sartre's novels and political activism. He also includes an overview of contemporary French philosophy and the influence of World War II. The book gives a unified view of the (seemingly disparate) topics discussed in "Being and Nothingness" by taking them as answers to the problem of human freedom. It also shows how Sartre's work can be placed in a long and distinguished tradition of philosophical reflection deriving from Kant.Gardner's 'Reading the Text' section reveals the systematic nature of Sartre's thought and the subtleties of his arguments (both of which can remain hidden form the first-time reader in his dense prose). Finally the book includes a discussion of the post-war reception of existentialism; criticisms of "Being and Nothingness", including Sartre's own following his conversion to Marxism and Merleau-Ponty's in the "Phenomenology of Perception"; the temporary eclipsing of Sartre's thought by structuralism and Sartre's influence and importance today. This is an invaluable companion to study of this important and influential philosophical text."Continuum Reader's Guides" are clear, concise and accessible introductions to key texts in literature and philosophy. Each book explores the themes, context, criticism and influence of key works, providing a practical introduction to close reading, guiding students towards a thorough understanding of the text. They provide an essential, up-to-date resource, ideal for undergraduate students.

L'Etre et le Néant
Jean-Paul Sartre

Cravistas franceses do século 17

Pianist and harpsichordist Alexei Lubimov was born in 1944 in Moscow. He received musical training at the Central School of Music (A. Artobolevskaya's class) and at the Moscow Conservatoire (class of Professor H. Neuhaus and L. Naumov). In 1965 he won the first prize at the International Competition of Pianists in Rio de Janeiro and in 1968 he became laureate of the international competition in Montreal. His repertoire is made up of early music, works by J. S. Bach, Vienna masters, Brahms and also 20th century music ranging from Scriabin and Debussy to Schoenberg and Webern. Alexei Lubimov often performs early music on original keyboard instruments. An example of this is the present recording of French harpsichordists pieces, which was made at the Moscow Conservatoire, performed on a Zuckermann harpsichord, a replica of an A. Ruckers original (1645).
