Ifar "Eef" Barzelay is an American musician, born in Tel Aviv, Israel on May 12, 1970. Most notably known as the principal songwriter and singer of alt country band Clem Snide, he has performed in a number of Boston-based bands, as well as toured as a solo act, both as headliner and as international support for artists such as Ben Folds.
Barzelay grew up in Teaneck, New Jersey and attended Teaneck High School.
In 2006 Barzelay released his debut solo album entitled Bitter Honey. In 2007 he composed many original tracks for the film Rocket Science. Barzelay's second solo album, Lose Big, was released on June 17, 2008 on 429 records. In 2009, Barzelay reformed Clem Snide. (Wikipedia)

Linguística do Corpus

Corpus linguistics is the study of language data on a large scale - the computer-aided analysis of very extensive collections of transcribed utterances or written texts. This textbook outlines the basic methods of corpus linguistics, explains how the discipline of corpus linguistics developed and surveys the major approaches to the use of corpus data. Com um nome horripilante (Taking the sacred path to decision making) mas nos trazendo conteúdo de primeira, o blog A Hippo on Campus publicou uma postagem muito interessante sobre a tomada de decisões, o valor que atribuímos às nossas escolhas e algumas abobrinhas sobre a localização cerebral disso tudo. Vou traduzir um trechinho para sacudir a inércia dos leitores.

Valores sagrados são aqueles valores e crenças fundamentais que guiam as decisões que tomamos através da vida. De sua identidade como membro de uma nação até sua ideologia política, sua crença religiosa e talvez até seu time favorito, esses valores são definidos pelo fato de que v. não os trocaria por todo o ouro desse mundo. Pelo menos não por $100. E precisamente foi isto que se pediu que fizessem os participantes de um estudo recente que estava pesquisando as redes neurais referentes a tudo o que é sacrossanto. Os pesquisadores da Emory University utilizaram fMRI para observar os cérebros de 32 participantes à medida em que liam afirmativas que iam do corriqueiro (Você é uma pessoa do tipo felino) àquelas que provavelmente alcançavam os valores sagrados do participante (Você acredita em deus - NT- com 'd' minúsculo no original). Cada uma das 62 afirmativas tinha um par oposto (Você é uma pessoa do tipo canino e Você não acredita em deus), e pediu-se aos participantes que selecionassem as afirmativas que melhor refletissem seus pontos de vista.

Quando Berns e seus colegas compararam os resultados de fMRI com as afirmativas que estavam sendo examinadas, descobriram algo muito interessante. As afirmativas que mexiam com os valores sagrados dos participantes resultavam em ativação significativamente maior dos sistemas neurais na junção temporoparietal esquerda e no córtex préfrontal ventrolateral esquerdo, e as afirmativas que os participantes se recusavam a abandonar resultavam em ativação da amigdala. Ora, eu sei o que v. está pensando. Não são essas as respectivas regiões cerebrais responsáveis pela determinação da oposição entre certo e errado, da recuperação das regras semânticas e das reações emocionais? Sim, elas são, mas para se ter uma idéia melhor da importância desses resultados talvez nós devêssemos fazer um passeio pelos meandros da ética da virtude.

Magnífico artigo, com seis páginas de texto e oito de referências - boa parte delas bastante recentes, e todas à propos. A "robótica" do título não ocupa nem um vigésimo da história - os holofotes estão sobre o cérebro e o corpo e comportamento humanos e o processamento de linguagem. Escrito em inglês perfeito (o autor é polonês, mas é Mestre em filologia inglesa), é tão denso que requer umas três leituras consecutivas para que possamos ter uma boa idéia geral de tudo que está sendo esmiuçado.

In Japan, Aokigahara is a forest at the base of Mount Fuji. Both a tourist destination of natural bounty and one of the top suicide sites in the world, it is simultaneously so lush it has been nicknamed Sea Of Trees and so mythologically curious that it has become associated with demonic presences. Exemplifying the region’s conflicting connotations is The Nocturne’s latest album. Aokigahara stirs up feelings from vague spaces — akin, perhaps, to what the morbidly curious feel when stumbling unexpectedly upon death. In circumstances when one can gain enough distance to view decay in its true artistic form, one can find in death the same sense of elation one finds in anything strange and novel.

A pure, yet absolutely present, white wraps the 9 tracks that, piece after piece, compose the first official release by Giampiero Riggio, “Separations”, released under Centre Of Wood. Born in 2007, from the mind of Andrea Penso (We wait for the snow, Selaxon Lutberg), the label spreads an affective approach to the musical matter, taking care of the packagings as physical extensions and not just containers, generating a dynamic that make us fall in love with an art object as it used to happen with vynils. A little white wool thread, not tight nor knotted, but just wrapped around the record looks as if it’s protecting the delicate tracks composed by Riggio. As you pull the thread out, an ethereal, absolutely intimate landscape spreads, with such a lyricism and intensity, as well as a “homemade” feeling, yet always able to look out of the window, that i would draw it closer to a masterpiece like Handwriting by Khonnor.

Il primo filare che piantiamo prende il nome di Giampiero Riggio (www.schnitzel.it/giampieroriggio). Giampiero è un'uva autoctona, nata in zona, ma poi esportata nel mondo. "Trapanese di Kassel", ha scritto Enrico Veronese su Blow Up.
L'uscita numero 0 di La Vigna è Separations (2007-2012), ed è una riedizione di un disco di Giampiero uscito nel 2007.
E' stato registrato in maniera quantomeno bizzarra, con un computer, il suo microfono integrato, una chitarra con una corda mancante e tante idee.
Lo abbiamo preso, un po' variato nei suoni, abbiamo aggiunto un booklet e un disco in più, fatto da 7 remix + un inedito.
Separations è un disco struggente e corposo, fisico e caldo.
E' il nostro Syrah, da gustare d'inverno, di fronte al camino di una casa di campagna.

A Terra está viva, afirma uma revolucionária teoria científica da vida que vem da Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. A teoria transdisciplinar demonstra que objetos ostensivamente não-vivos, inanimados - por exemplo, planetas, a água, proteínas e o DNA - são animados, isto é, têm vida. Com seu amplo poder explanatório, aplicável a todas as áreas da ciência e da medicina, esse novo paradigma procura catalisar um verdadeiro renascimento.

Erik Andrulis, PhD, professor assistente de biologia molecular e de microbiologia, elaborou sua controversa estrutura em seu manuscrito "Theory of the Origin, Evolution, and Nature of Life", publicado na revista peer-reviewed Life. Sua teoria explica não só o aparecimento evolutivo da vida na Terra e no Universo como também a estrutura e função das células e biosferas existentes.

Além de resolver persistentes paradoxos e mistérios da química e da biologia, a teoria do Dr. Andrulis unifica as mecânicas quântica e celeste. Sua solução não ortodoxa para esse importantíssimo problema da física difere das abordagens convencionais, como a da teoria das cordas, por ser simples, não-matemática e verificável experimental e experiencialmente. Sendo assim, a nova figura da gravidade quântica é radical.

A idéia básica estruturada pelo Dr. Andrulis é que toda a realidade física pode ser modelada por um entidade geométrica simples que tem características semelhantes à vida: o giro (gyre). O "giromodelo" descreve os objetos - partículas, átomos, substâncias químicas, moléculas e células - como pacotes quanticisados (NT - quantized) de informação, energia e/ou matéria que oscilam entre estados excitados e básicos em torno de uma singularidade, o centro do giromodelo (NT - esta última frase está um pouco diferente daquela do artigo do site PhysOrg porque utilizei aqui a frase original do artigo, que foi "manicurada" pelo autor internético). A própria singularidade é modelada como um giro, totalmente compatível com a natureza termodinâmica e fractal da vida. Um exemplo desta organização aninhada e de auto-similaridade é a boneca russa Matryoshka.
